I have a bunch of tattoos. I’m sure you’re curious why that matters. Some are terrible. In fact, so terrible they will soon be covered with better choices. But there’s one, in particular, that means a lot to me. It spans my collarbone and it reads “A New Life Begins”. It was actually inspired by the song “Destroy Everything” by Hatebreed. While that might not be everyone’s style of music I highly recommended that you give it a listen. If nothing else, it might pump you up a bit.

The song talks about destroying the things that make us weak, about “decimating threats”. In essence, the song is about overcoming. It’s about tearing down that which is weak and threatened and ultimately building something new.

How can this apply to our lives? I’m so glad you asked!

Think about this, how often do you feel fear and run away? If you’re like most people, you run from it more than you confront it. How often are we willing to admit weakness publicly, all the while criticizing ourselves internally for those weaknesses you try so hard to hide? How often are we actually willing to start over? How willing are we to destroy and rebuild? How willing are we to reinvent ourselves? Really think about it!

What if we saw things differently? What if we did destroy everything? What if we faced the pain, faced the weakness, faced the fear and moved forward anyway? That’s the real challenge! Most of us, I say us because I’m including myself in this conversation, hate the idea of facing discomfort and uncertainty. We hate it so much we keep ourselves in shitty situations so we don’t have to face the specter of the unknown. We forget that inaction is still an action. Choosing to do nothing is still a choice. (Insert your own cliché here)

So what do we do? Funny thing is, I don’t have the answer for you. I’m on a journey of rebuilding, a journey of rediscovering myself, and figuring out who I am and what I want to stand for, but the key is this… I AM PARTICIPATING! I’m taking action by participating in the process! The real question is, are you willing to participate in the process for yourself?

If so here’s the advice I have for you… Destroy Everything!

Destroy Everything that stands in your way! Feel the fear and do it anyway! Burn your fucking boats, as Tony Robbins would say! In fact, I’m going to leave you with a quote from him because I think it’s appropriate!

“If you want to take the island, burn your fucking boats and you will take the island, people who are willing to die to succeed tend to succeed. Most of us give ourselves outs, that’s why we don’t have what we want” -Tony Robbins

Until next time, stay fly my friends!
